Oh man I need some actual downtime soon.
Friday
On Friday I kind of hit the wall. I’ve got a lot of projects on the go and they all need a lot of pushing.
We got delivery from Happy Noodle House1 that ended up taking 40min longer to arrive. We rallied and went to a small birthday gathering where we talked about advent calendars and I tasted this yummy Spanish white wine, a new-to-me grape varietal Albarino.
Happy birthday Carlos and congrats Adrian on your advent calendar.
Saturday
On Saturday I video game rotted for a good chunk of the day, hence:Enshrouded is like Fable meets No Mans Sky
It was municipal elections but we had early voted …so we decided to do our Provincial early voting.
Does it snack?
We went to this Does it Snack? Event in the evening. Put on by IG @Tiny Volcano and held at THIS Gallery.
It was a blind taste test of exotic for Vancouver snacks, where you were encouraged to both imagine what it was before tasting and writing up your notes.
I’m missing several snacks here, including the very best one, a chicharron made of vegetables2
Then we went home, stayed up late, and cheered at the TV as we saw Vancouver election results come in.
Sunday
Rachael had wanted to go to Whistler to see a show before it closed at the Audain Gallery, but it ended up feeling too far.
So we kind of went part way and drove up to Squamish and did some outdoor things and some walking around town things, with really nice sunny weather.
Missing the turn off to Porteau Cove wasn’t a great start, but got to check out Outbound Station.
📍 Outbound Station Restaurant · Britannia Beach, British Columbia, CA Did you know if you miss the turn off to Porteau Cove you just have to keep driving for like 5km? w/ @rachaelashe.com https://beaconbits.app/beacon/2cxgdrgtsmrbqnjkwyplmp43/3my66lorv7k2a #BeaconBits
Then wandered around Shannon Falls.
On to Squamish where we wandered into a yarn shop and around the corner to Buvette and shared this Staff Special deli sandwich.
I picked a place on the map where it looked like we could walk on the beach. It’s actually a brand new development Oceanfront Squamish that is putting in 100acres of buildings.
Back into town we parked and wandered around Squamish’s downtown area. Skin care store Harlow, locally made chocolate store XOCO.
Down the street to Book Mountain second book store where I took these pictures of books rather than buying them.
Fruit Hunters is really good if you like stories of how and where fruit comes from. My favourite did you know? Is how apples used to be not sweet, more like crabapples or quinces and had to be cooked to be eaten. And then humans did plant magic and now we have delicious off the tree apples.
Ok we did make it to Porteau Cove on the way back.
Drove back home. Had more leftover Chinese because that was clearly a great call on Friday night to help us make it through the weekend.
